Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 21, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Fantasy Read ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use our website, mobile apps, and related services ("the Service").

Data Controller: The Service is operated by NO2V EOOD, which acts as the data controller for personal data processed through the Service. For full legal details of the operator (including registered office address and company number), please see our Terms of Service.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

Data Protection Officer (DPO): NO2V EOOD has not appointed a Data Protection Officer as it is not required under the GDPR for our current activities. You can contact us using the email in the Contact section for any privacy-related questions or requests.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

We collect the following information when you create an account or use the Service:

  • Email address
  • Password (securely hashed)
  • Uploaded books (EPUB files) stored on a private, per-user basis
  • Your reading progress and metadata (current chapter, last opened date, etc.)
  • Any feedback or messages you send us

AI Processing Data

To generate summaries and reading insights with The Sage, your book is processed in successive sections. Each section, along with a brief AI-generated summary of previous sections, may be sent to third-party AI inference providers solely to generate the next portion of your reading analysis. Only the minimum data necessary for each request is transmitted.

We require our AI providers to process content only under our instructions. Where supported by the provider and our configuration, we require that providers do not use your content for model training and do not retain it beyond what is necessary to process a request.

Payment Information

If you subscribe to a Pro plan, payment information is processed by our payment partners (e.g., Stripe or Paddle). We do not store your full payment card details.

Automatically Collected Information

We may collect technical data such as:

  • Device type and browser information
  • IP address (for security and fraud prevention)
  • Usage analytics (page visits, feature usage, error logs)

Website analytics. We use privacy-friendly website analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website, such as which pages are visited and how visitors arrive at the site. These analytics are used solely to measure and improve the performance and content of our website.

The analytics we use do not rely on cookies, do not track users across websites or devices, and do not allow us to identify individual visitors.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Service
  • Store your personal library and reading progress
  • Generate AI-powered summaries and reading insights
  • Authenticate your account and secure the Service
  • Process subscription payments
  • Respond to support requests
  • Monitor service performance and detect abuse

Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases to process personal data:

  • Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)): to provide the Service, including account access, storing your library, syncing reading progress, and generating requested AI outputs.
  • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): to secure the Service, prevent abuse/fraud, diagnose issues, and improve reliability and user experience. Where applicable, we balance these interests against your rights.
  • Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): to comply with applicable laws (e.g., accounting, tax, lawful requests).
  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)), where applicable: for optional communications or features that require consent. You may withdraw consent at any time.

4. How We Handle Your Books

Your uploaded books are stored privately and are accessible only to your account. We do not:

  • Sell or distribute your books
  • Allow other users to access your books
  • Use your books for AI model training
  • Index your books for search engines

Your books are processed only to provide reading features and AI assistance within your account.

5. Sharing Your Information

Third-Party Service Providers

We may share limited data with third-party providers who help us operate the Service, including:

  • AI inference providers (for generating The Sage's output)
  • Cloud hosting providers (for secure file storage)
  • Payment processors
  • Analytics and diagnostics services

These providers may process your information only as necessary to deliver the Service and are contractually obligated to protect it.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests (e.g., court order, subpoena, or DMCA notice), but only to the extent required.

No Sale of User Data

We do not sell your personal information, your books, or your reading data.

California residents may contact us at the email address below with questions about how their rights apply under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

6. AI Providers & Data Use

When generating AI outputs, we send only the data required for the specific request. Your book is processed in small segments, and only the segment currently being analyzed—together with short AI-generated summaries of earlier segments—is shared with our inference provider.

We require our AI providers to process content only under our instructions and for the purpose of delivering the requested output for your account.

International Data Transfers

Some third-party providers (including certain AI inference and infrastructure providers) may process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Where applicable, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encrypted storage for your books
  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
  • Secure password hashing
  • Access controls and authentication

However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.

8. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., EU, UK, California), you may have rights including:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Download your uploaded books
  • Object to certain processing
  • Request data portability

To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@fantasyread.ai.

If you are located in the EEA/UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Data Retention

We retain your information only as long as necessary to operate the Service. If you delete your account:

  • Your uploaded books are permanently deleted
  • Your reading progress is removed
  • Your personal data may be retained temporarily for legal, tax, or security purposes

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting contact@fantasyread.ai. Once your request is verified, your account and all uploaded books will be permanently deleted.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required by your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after updates become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

If changes materially affect how your data is used, we will notify you by email or through an in-app notice where appropriate.
