Terms of Service

By accessing or using FantasyRead (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and FantasyRead and should be read together with our Copyright & DMCA Policy and our Privacy Policy.

FantasyRead provides an AI-powered reading companion that allows users to upload, store, and read their own books, and to enhance their reading experience with “The Sage”, our AI agent. The Service includes both free and paid subscription plans.

The Service does not sell, license, or provide access to any books or other third-party content. You are responsible for providing the books you wish to use with the Service and for ensuring you have the lawful right to use them.

Account Creation

You must create an account to use certain features of the Service. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep this information up to date.

Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access or use of your account.

Eligibility

You represent that you are at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction or are using the Service with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

Your Content

You retain all ownership rights to the books and any other content you upload to FantasyRead (“User Content”). By uploading User Content, you represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions to upload and use such content with the Service, including owning or lawfully accessing DRM-free versions where applicable.

License to Process Content

By uploading User Content, you grant FantasyRead a limited, non-exclusive, revocable, worldwide license to host, store, process, analyze, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of operating and providing the Service to you (for example, storing your books, tracking your reading position, and generating AI-powered analyses through The Sage).

To generate reading insights, your content may be processed in small sections, along with short AI-generated summaries of previous sections, and sent to third-party AI inference providers solely to produce the requested output for your account. These providers are contractually prohibited from storing, retaining, or training on your content.

This license does not grant us the right to sell, publicly distribute, or otherwise exploit your User Content outside of providing the Service to you.

Prohibited Content

You may not upload User Content that:

• Violates copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
• Contains DRM-protected materials without proper authorization
• Is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
• Contains viruses, malware, or other harmful or disruptive code

Responsibility for User Content

You, not FantasyRead, are solely responsible for your User Content and for ensuring that your use of the Service complies with applicable laws, including copyright laws. Our Copyright & DMCA Policy describes how we handle claims of infringement.

Subscription Plans

FantasyRead offers Free and Pro subscription plans. The features, limits, and pricing of each plan are described on our pricing page and may be updated from time to time.

Paid Subscriptions

Pro plans are billed on a recurring basis (for example, monthly) to your chosen payment method. By subscribing, you authorize us (or our payment processor) to charge your payment method for the applicable subscription fees and any taxes, until you cancel.

Service Fees vs. Book Access

Subscription fees cover access to the Service and its features, such as hosting and storing your private library and providing AI-powered reading assistance. Subscription payments do not include or grant any rights, licenses, or access to books or other third-party works. You remain responsible for acquiring and lawfully using any books with the Service.

Billing, Changes, and Refunds

Subscription fees are generally non-refundable except as required by law. We may change prices or features of subscription plans prospectively by providing notice through the Service or by email. Any changes will take effect at the start of your next billing period, unless otherwise stated.

Cancellation

You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time. Cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period. You will continue to have access to Pro features until the end of the paid period, after which your account may revert to a Free plan with reduced functionality.

Data Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Your library and reading data are stored on a private, per-user basis and are not visible to other users.

Third-Party Service Providers

We may use third-party service providers, including AI inference providers and hosting providers, to operate and improve the Service. These providers may process your data on our behalf and under our instructions, solely to provide the Service (for example, generating AI-powered summaries). We require such providers to handle your data responsibly and in accordance with applicable law and our Privacy Policy.

Data Storage and Backups

We store your uploaded books and reading progress to provide the Service. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, you are responsible for maintaining your own backups of your User Content.

Details about how we collect, use, and protect your personal data are described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you consent to our data practices as described there.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation
• Upload content that infringes the rights of others
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service or related systems
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
• Use automated systems or bots to access the Service in a manner that could burden our infrastructure
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
• Share your account credentials with others or resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service

AI-Generated Content

The Sage uses AI technology to analyze your books and generate summaries, character descriptions, and other insights. AI-generated content may not always be accurate or complete and may occasionally misinterpret or omit details.

Non-Substitutive Design

The Service is designed as a reading companion, not as a replacement for the original work. We implement safeguards to limit AI outputs so that they do not provide a complete substitute for reading the book itself, including progress-based assistance and efforts to avoid reproducing copyrighted text verbatim.

The underlying analysis occurs progressively, meaning your book is processed in small segments and only the minimum necessary information is transmitted with each request.

Language Support

The Sage works best with English-language books. Analysis quality for books in other languages may vary and is provided on an “as-is” basis.

No Legal Advice or Fair Use Guarantee

The Service does not provide legal advice. While we design the Service to support responsible use of copyrighted material, we cannot guarantee that any specific use of the Service or AI-generated content will qualify as “fair use” or any similar exception under copyright law.

We strive to provide a reliable Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. The Service may be unavailable from time to time due to maintenance, updates, technical issues, or events beyond our control. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FantasyRead and its owners, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

• Your use of or inability to use the Service
• Any unauthorized access to or use of our servers and/or any personal information stored therein
• Any interruption or cessation of the Service
• Any errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in AI-generated content
• Any loss, corruption, or deletion of your User Content

The Service is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FantasyRead and its owners, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms or any applicable law.

We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the Service at our sole discretion, with or without notice, if we believe that you have violated these Terms, are engaged in unlawful or harmful activities, or for any other reason. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. Certain provisions of these Terms, including ownership, limitations of liability, and indemnification, shall survive termination.

We may modify these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service, by email, or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable in your country of residence or, if otherwise specified on the Service, the laws of the specified jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of that jurisdiction.
